SYLVIA JESSUP

As a licensed private practice psychotherapist, Sylvia provides psychotherapy to individuals, couples, families and groups. She is certified to provide Prepare Enrich pre-marital and marital therapy and is skilled in providing co-parenting counseling. During 2010-2011 and 2013-2016, Sylvia has provided Personal Growth therapy to graduate level Marriage & Family Therapist students at Pfeiffer University Charlotte & Raleigh. In addition, she continues to provide guidance and therapy to a number of licensed therapists. Sylvia's clients often comment that she is caring as well as knowledgeable. Sylvia is known as the therapists' therapist.
In addition to her private practice, Sylvia speaks at small or large groups and conferences to women and couples about life challenges. Sylvia has years of experience working with women who have been incarcerated and those returning to the community. She has provided support to substance abuse issues and continues to work in this field. In addition, Sylvia is committed to supporting others. She is the founder of a women's leadership ministry that started in 2000 and continues as a major source to help and encourage women. In 2009, she started a Christian-based adolescent girls talk group and continues to work with some of these young ladies. In addition, Sylvia continues to have therapeutic success working with men who are confronted with anxiety and self-identity.
Sylvia is active in her faith and in her church. She is married and has two sons with nine grandchildren.

QUALIFICATIONS
A graduate of Gordon-Conwell Theological Seminary-Charlotte, with a Masters of Arts degree in Christian Counseling.
Sylvia is dually licensed in the State of North Carolina as a Licensed Professional Counselor and a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist. Sylvia is currently completing the requirements to receive her license as a NC Licensed Clinical Addiction Specialist (LCAS). In addition, Sylvia is certified to provide Prepare Enrich Pre-Marital, and Marital Enrichment Counseling. Trained in the Active Parenting Cooperative Parenting and Divorce program, Sylvia is skilled in providing co-parenting sessions/classes.
Sylvia has provided many hours of personal growth counseling to masters level Marriage and Family Therapist (MFT) students at a local university. Comprehensive work with incarcerated and previously incarcerated women and adolescent girls struggling with a variety of reentry and transition challenges. Experienced in working with many people who struggle or have struggled with substance abuse and addiction issues. Intensive work with couples, families, and groups.
Retired in 2011 after 31 years in the financial services industry. During her 31-year career in the financial services industry, Sylvia actively served on many local, state, and national housing agency boards of directors.
